Slightly crazy clothes combinations

Wed, 07/04/2012 - 10:28

Damn it.

I wish I could walk in these shoes!

Practice, practice, practice.

Mad clothes combo for mad-feeling day.

You know what I mean?

I'm loving this outdoor/indoor space created in a garden in Brockley, SE London.

I spotted it during the artists' open studios event.

Always great to have a look at makers' work - as well as having a chance to nose around their houses and gardens!

Cheap Chic Tip of the Week

Sat, 06/30/2012 - 10:53

No apologies for making this week's Cheap Chic Tip of the Week a destination. No apologies either for making it London-centric.

So if you either live in London or are visiting London this summer....

then get yourselves down to Brixton - specifically Brixton Village.

Inspiring flower-making book

Fri, 06/29/2012 - 11:05

OK - I don't speak Japanese so translating this book might be tricky!

However, the ideas in it are great, and I'm sure someone somewhere will help me out.

It's packed with lots of beautiful fabric-flower making ideas....much more delicate and dainty-looking than anything I've seen in English.

Top hat-tastic

Wed, 06/27/2012 - 10:21

I'm currently developing ideas for my second book all about hats which is due to be published (God willing!) next year.

This is a mini-top-hat. The initial inspiration was a tin of Baked Beans. Yes really!

A bit tricky to make - but nothing someone who's handy with a needle and thread couldn't attempt.

Or of course you could just have me make one for you!

Paper pompoms

Fri, 06/15/2012 - 18:25

Spotted these beautiful vintage paper pompoms on Pinterest...

..and thought it might be fun to recreate a similar look...

I'm going to try again next week and will post a simple "how to" if they work!

Have a good weekend all.

DIY vintage display heads

Fri, 06/15/2012 - 16:17

I've spent the morning giving a vintage spin to these rather plain white polystyrene display heads.

I used a 1950's magazine, but anything will do really.

Get some common-a-garden PVA glue and water it down a little till it's the consistency of thick cream.

Service with a smile!

Ta dah!

My handy friend Alex popped round for a cuppa today and noticed the standard lamp standing sadly in the corner.

It's been there since I acquired it for a tenner at a car boot sale in Norfolk nearly a year ago.

My intention was to get it re-wired and paint the stand a bright glossy green.

I've not yet done it.

Cheap Chic Tip of the Week

Fri, 06/08/2012 - 12:48

Heading off on holiday?

Look out for unusual tins of goodies to bring back home.

Great for storage once you've eaten the contents!
