Vintiquing in Bordeaux

Tue, 10/08/2013 - 15:48

This time last year I headed to Bordeaux for the annual Festival of Brocante and New Wine.

If you like shoping for vintage and tasting this year's new vintage - then Bordeaux is the place to be in autumn!

A few months ago my friend told me her Mum was having a clearout.

Stashed in the loft of her family home in Glasgow was a haul of vintage fairisle dating back to the 1970's.

I've been a fan of Deborah Bowness wallpaper ever since I stumbled upon her studio on the Hastings seafront one

particularly bleak day several years ago.

Looking in through the misty window I lost myself in her faded, delicate trompe l'oeil work.

What a surfeit of wonderfully different workshops I've been involved with recently.

Here are the results of my cloche hat workshop with the lovely Nicky Cook @ The White Room SE4 in Brockley

..a fabulous new sewing space next to The Rivoli Ballroom.

We had a lot of fun.

Need I say more?!

Finally - what we've all been waiting for!

At long last - the final exhibition of work from The Kensington & Chelsea College HNC millinery students.

This is the only course of its kind in the country, and the students produce incredibly sophisticated pieces.

This year's graduates are a particularly talented bunch.

It was especially satisfying for me to see two of my former BTEC students, Sage Townsend and Martine Henry showing their work.

At last the much anticipated book launch...!

Three cheers for "The Modern Girl's Guide to Hatmaking" recently launched at the lovely Atelier Millinery in London.

A fabulous night with friends, colleagues and hat enthusiasts galore.

Here I am with Jane Garvey and her producer in the BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour studio.

It was great to be on my favourite Radio 4 programme.

Thanks Jane for being such a sport. I'll make a milliner of you yet!
